To boldly go where no manic pixie dream girl has gone before.
Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.
Kickstarter successful and closed [ May 19, 2026 ]
The Kickstarter campaign for Not-Safe.Space Chapter 3 concluded successfully on April 21, and Scott extended the time allowed for late pledges until May 19.
Books have been ordered from the printer and Scott will be spending the next week or so setting up and sending the PDF files to those who asked for them.
(There are still six of you who have not responded to the survey asking for e-mail and snail-mail addresses, he'll do the best he can.)
Panel 1
Return to the flash-back scene. Hugo, Murphy and Eithne are seated around a table, with their drinks. Hugo and Murphy now holo-projecting normal clothing.
Caption (Hugo): 'So we sat down together and Eithne explained our situation ...'
Eithne: It's been three years since you guys last departed on a mapping mission.
Eithne: Gran'ma said you usually return after a year, or maybe two at most.
Panel 2
Another view, focused on Eithne.
Eithne: After two years went by, Gran'ma began to worry that something had gone wrong.
Eithne: Per your instructions, she fabbed your new bodies.
Eithne: With some upgrades we thought you'd appreciate. At least I hope so.
Panel 3
Another view of the same scene.
Eithne: Gran'ma got called away shortly after we started the process of downloading your stored personalities.
Eithne: It all seemed to go smoothly, but she said you should wait until she gets back to check you guys out thoroughly.
Panel 4
Hugo and Murphy.
Hugo: That could be quite a while, and I'm anxious to find out what happened to our previous selves.
Murphy: Barbara McCormick is a highly-skilled roboticist. Maybe we should wait?
Murphy: Besides, we don't have our starship, do we?
Panel 5
Shift focus to Eithne, looking slightly sheepish.
Eithne: Well …. you don't have the one you left in, but you do have one.
Eithne: I got bored, and well, you have such great facilities here.
Eithne: So, I built you a new one.
Panel 6
Eithne pouts as Hugo sneers at her. Murphy is kinder.
Hugo: Oh, sure, I see no problem going to an unexplored galaxy in a starship built by a child.
Murphy: Now, Hugo, she's about the same age Nicole was when she built the first Displacement Drive ships, remember?
Murphy: At least let's check it out.
