Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.
Kickstarter successful and closed [ May 19, 2026 ]
The Kickstarter campaign for Not-Safe.Space Chapter 3 concluded successfully on April 21, and Scott extended the time allowed for late pledges until May 19.
Books have been ordered from the printer and Scott will be spending the next week or so setting up and sending the PDF files to those who asked for them.
(There are still six of you who have not responded to the survey asking for e-mail and snail-mail addresses, he'll do the best he can.)
Panel 1
Li and Nicole enter a spartan-looking room. About 5 meters square, plain metal walls, another door at the far end. Near that door stand five people of various configurations wearing sack-cloths and hats with bones stuck through them. The 'Boneheads.' They each have a simple chair behind them, and two more chairs have been arranged in front, facing them. The only other furniture in the room is a table upon which sits a couple of water pitchers and drinking tumblers. There is also a large viewscreen on one wall, currently displaying an external view of L-5 City. One of the Boneheads gestures towards the two chairs.
Bonehead 1: Welcome to the Abode Humble. Please be seated.
Bonehead 1: Would you like some water?
Panel 2
Li and Nicole take their seats.
Li: Er … yes, please.
Li (thoughtsend): They're not exactly what I expected.
Nicole (thoughtsend): I've heard stories, but I know what you mean.
Panel 3
Medium shot of Nicole as an android hands her a glass of water.
Nicole: (thoughtsend): The L-5 City founders wanted to prevent the Muc Ar Foulain Board of Directors from becoming as corrupt as other governing bodies.
Nicole: (thoughtsend): There are a variety of safe-guards – a restrictive charter, double-blind trusts, prohibitions against outside compensation – but I guess enforced humility was considered a key psychological factor.
Panel 4
Looking past Li and Nicole at the directors.
Bonehead 1: As a courtesy we advise you that this conversation is being recorded by an independent agency.
Li (thoughtsend): Also, a degree of transparency, I suppose.
Bonehead 1: Shall we begin?
