Hu Iz Alyss Roaz?
Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.
What Comes Next [ Mar 18, 2024 ]
The war is over, but This Means War has a ways to go. Novo Paolo/Bubbleopolis is still in a nebula/stellar nursery, no one knows what happened to the planet Sharen (center of the Intergalactic Council), and the status of the now-surrendered Invaders is yet to be resolved. What will they do when they learn their homeworld is basically destroyed? Will Alyss and Li be re-united? How about Diana (the real one) and Otto?
These questions will be resolved in the next few weeks, before This Means War part 3 wraps in late May.
After that, I plan to go BACK in time about 400 years, to when Alyss and Li left their home in the Sol System to colonize a new world on the far side of the galaxy. As one might expect, hijinks ensue. New subtitle yet to be determined, start date sometime in around the start of July. Stay tuned!
Panel 1
Boney and Alyss in Alyss' reception room. She is looking at Zander's gadget.
Boney: So Bok said it's able to un-lock buggies.
Boney: But he couldn't test it further because, you know ...
Alyss: Yes yes, the buggies are network-linked.
Panel 2
Alyss has pulled the cover off the gadget, examining its internal workings.
Boney: So, we figured you could add some programming to block the network link?
Alyss: Oh, is that what you figured?
Boney: Uh, you can, can't you?
Panel 3
Alyss replaces the cover.
Alyss: In my sleep. But that's not what's most interesting here.
Alyss: This culture discourages human access to technology, beyond a certain level.
Alyss: The Central A.I. doesn't like disruptions in its planning.
Panel 4
Alyss begins pacing as she speaks. Boney follows her.
Boney: Yeah, that's what you ...
Alyss: And yet, here we have this child, completely self-taught, putting together a sophisticated device, practically using stone knives and bear skins.
Boney: Well, actually it was salvaged scraps from … ah … discards.
Panel 5
Alyss continues pacing, Boney blushes a bit.
Alyss: You mean, stolen goods and items selected out of the Dispensaries.
Boney: Well, yeah, I mean ...
Alyss: The point is, this child is a freaking genius to have built such a thing.
Panel 6
Alyss turns to face Boney.
Alyss: I must meet this boy , bring him into the group. Can you arrange it?
Boney: Well, it will take some doing, but I think I can get Bok to help me.
