A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly 100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Panel 1Hugo and Murphy with their rocket-packs are nearing the Dryhaven. An open airlock hatch is visible.
Hugo (thoughtsend): Where is their airlock?
Murphy (thoughtsend): 'Round on the starboard side of that forward section.
Hugo: I love it when you talk nautical to me.
Panel 2
Hugo and Murphy are approaching the airlock.
Murphy (thoughtsend): Do you realize that is exactly the 2,000th time you've used that line?
Hugo (thoughtsend): I haven't been keeping count. Do I get a prize?
Murphy: Not if you haven't been keeping count, you don't.

They enter the airlock, touching-down on the deck in the artificial-gravity.
Hugo (thoughtsend): I half-expected this deck to be electrified.
Murphy (thoughtsend): That notion did occur to me. Fortunately our boots are insulated.
Hugo: Let's hope our hosts are less obnoxious than the Gluteans.
