Dark plans fall like thunderbolts.
Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Panel 1
From a hillside, some soggy residents are waving at the Cruiser as it approaches.
Alyss (narrates from cameo): Meanwhile, Li and Julius teamed up as one of four search-and-rescue teams which Elvin had managed to enlist.
Panel 2
Aboard the cruiser, Julius assists the refugees
Alyss: They found several people in the hills beyond the flooded area. Li told me he and Julius rescued 152 men, women and children that night.
Panel 3
Li grimly watches one of his viewscreens showing floating bodies in the flood water.
Alyss: Not everyone was so lucky. Farther downstream Li started finding drowned bodies.
Alyss: He worried they’d eventually end up in the bay
Panel 4
Julius is hanging from the Cruiser in a harness, and dragging bodies onto the dry ground.
Alyss: That clever Julius rigged himself a harness, and hanging from the Cruiser on a strong line, guided or dragged the bodies onto dry ground. Li noted their locations for later retrieval.
Panel 5
Now we’re back to the present: Alyss and the kids. One of the older kids pipes up.
Kid 2 (girl): They worked all night on almost no sleep? How did they manage?
Kid 3 (boy): I’ll bet they took stimms.
Panel 6
Alyss looks mildly unhappy, side-eyes Kid 3.
Alyss: {sigh} I won’t lie to you, Dieter, they did.
Alyss: But that stuff is highly addictive, and shortens your lifespan.
Alyss: For use in emergencies only,
understand?
