A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Nicole, Veronica and Buford emerge from a portal marked "Gate 5". They are skipping along on tippy-toes, a nearby sign marked "GE1" indicates a 1-grav electro-gravity environment. Another reads "Welcome to Voltaire Station." Nicole is exultant.
Caption: Sixteen huoke (~ 4 hours) later:
Nicole: We made it!
Nicole: Free of that crazy world!
The girls continue along a corridor, following a sign marked, "Baggage claim".
Nicole: So, uh, Veronica, how's it feel to take your first breaths of freedom?
Nicole: I know you don't actually breathe, but ...
Veronica: I understand your meaning, Nicole.
Two-shot of Nicole and Veronica.
Veronica: However, I'm not legally free until, as my owner of record, you sign and notarize my manumission document.
Nicole: Oh, that's right! Well, let's go find a notary.
The girls find a Notary office, with a queue of waiting humans and androids extending out the door and into the corridor.
Nicole: Oh. Well. Huh.
