Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.
Kickstarter successful and closed [ May 19, 2026 ]
The Kickstarter campaign for Not-Safe.Space Chapter 3 concluded successfully on April 21, and Scott extended the time allowed for late pledges until May 19.
Books have been ordered from the printer and Scott will be spending the next week or so setting up and sending the PDF files to those who asked for them.
(There are still six of you who have not responded to the survey asking for e-mail and snail-mail addresses, he'll do the best he can.)
Panel 1
Wook, Diana, and Alyss at the hopper landing. Diana looks dubiously at Alyss as she waves a hand dismissively.
Diana: That sounds bad. Really bad.
Alyss: Or, it could be nothing! A false alarm!
Diana: But, I mean, our entire civilization?
Panel 2
Cut to an imagined scene where a man is sitting on a toilet. A bomb is popping into position right in front of him. Alyss explains from a cameo inset.
Alyss: Discontinuous displacement technology not only allows us to travel across the universe ...
Alyss: … but also down the street, or next door, into anyone's private space.
Panel 3
Another scene, somewhat diagrammatic. We can see a section of a building with a visible force-field around it, and that same bomb is bouncing off the outer surface. Alyss again explains from an inset.
Alyss: Almost immediately after Murphy and I developed the Displacement Drive, I went to work on a shield that would protect your bathroom, your flat, your city, or your planet from malicious entry.
Alyss: Just like cyber-security, shield-tech requires continual refinement and updating.
Panel 4
Cut back to the hallway at the hopper landing: Wook, Diana and Alyss.
Diana: You explained all that when I arrived here, but ...
Alyss: But think! What happens if someone finds a flaw in the shield that we can't counter?
Diana: Then we'll either need to spend less time on the toilet, or a lot more.
